Out of Frankfurt, Into Turkey
Hrvoje Smolcic is on the move. The Croatian centre-back has completed a permanent transfer to Turkish Süper Lig side Arca Çorum FK, signing a two-year deal with a one-year option. Eintracht Frankfurt have given the green light. The deal is done.
Smolcic, 25, had a contract at Frankfurt running until 2027. No future at the club, though. He had spent last season on loan at Kocaelispor, where he established himself as a regular starter in the Süper Lig. That stint in Turkey opened the door to this permanent move.
Frankfurt are believed to receive a fee in the region of 1 to 1.5 million euros. Not a headline number, but clean business for a player who had no path back into their first team.
A New Süper Lig Chapter
Çorum FK are a Süper Lig newcomer, having won promotion ahead of this season. Ambitious and active in the transfer market, they have moved quickly to add experience and quality across the squad. Smolcic fits that profile exactly.
The left-footed defender brings Bundesliga pedigree and a full season of Turkish top-flight experience. Çorum know what they are getting. A composed, physical centre-back who proved himself in the league they now compete in.
Notably, Smolcic will not be the only Frankfurt departure heading to Çorum. Michy Batshuayi is also closing in on a move to the same club, making it a double Frankfurt exit to northern Turkey.
For Smolcic, this is the fresh start he needed. Regular football at Süper Lig level, a genuine role within a growing club, and two years to make the move his own.
