Klopp Open to Germany Job if DFB Calls

DFB Germany Jurgen Klopp Julian Nagelsmann

Jurgen Klopp would be willing to listen if the German Football Association decides to approach him about the national team job. Julian Nagelsmann still wants to stay on, but the final call rests entirely with the DFB. Behind the scenes, Klopp remains keen on the project should the moment arrive.

A Crisis Point for Nagelsmann

Germany's shock Round of 32 exit against Paraguay has thrown Nagelsmann's future into serious doubt. Despite controlling much of the match statistically, Die Mannschaft fell in a penalty shootout, marking their first knockout defeat since lifting the trophy back in 2014. Naturally, scrutiny followed almost immediately.

Nagelsmann hasn't hidden from the pressure, however. "I am available if the DFB wants that," he told reporters after the game, making clear he won't walk away voluntarily. Still, he acknowledged the decision ultimately belongs to federation president Bernd Neuendorf and the sporting leadership team, who are reportedly weighing a serious change.

Klopp Waits in the Wings

Publicly, Klopp has downplayed the speculation, insisting he "hasn't thought about" replacing his former rival. Yet according to well-placed sources, that stance shifts privately. Should the DFB come calling, Klopp would engage with the conversation rather than dismiss it outright, viewing the national team project as genuinely appealing.

Currently serving as Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull, Klopp has spent this tournament working as a pundit for MagentaTV, offering pointed analysis throughout Germany's campaign. That visibility has only intensified calls for his return to the touchline. Timing has blocked previous approaches, first after Joachim Low's exit, then following Hansi Flick's dismissal. This time, circumstances appear different.

For now, Nagelsmann's contract runs through Euro 2028, and no formal decision has been made.
