Financially, the numbers reflect that ambition. Real Madrid agreed to pay around €55 million, with a further €5 million possible through add-ons. Given Chelsea paid roughly €65 million in 2022, this marks a notable drop in value. Still, Mourinho sees enough quality to justify the move.
Cucurella's profile suits Madrid's needs neatly. Versatile, energetic, and comfortable bombing forward, he adds depth at left-back while offering tactical flexibility elsewhere. Mourinho, known for squeezing the best from experienced players, could extract a fresh peak from him.
Timing matters here, too. Cucurella is currently focused on the World Cup with Spain. Real Madrid waited until after his World Cup duty wrapped up before finalizing the paperwork.
Beyond the pitch, this move carries symbolic weight. Barcelona and Atletico Madrid both showed interest earlier on. Ultimately, though, Cucurella chose Real, and Mourinho pushed hard to make it happen.
