The Bosnia international enjoyed a breakout World Cup, catching attention with his goal against Qatar. Since then, interest across Europe has snowballed quickly. Alonso reportedly identified him personally, having overseen his development during a previous Leverkusen stint together.

Italian clubs haven't backed away yet, either. Napoli and Juventus remain firmly involved in the race, keeping pressure on Chelsea to move decisively. Atalanta already saw an opening offer rejected, showing just how competitive this pursuit has become among Serie A sides.

Crucially, Alajbegović himself hasn't settled on his next destination. He's yet to decide between Chelsea's interest and the Italian options circling him, leaving the situation fluid for now. That uncertainty could work in Chelsea's favor, given Alonso's direct relationship with the player.

Leverkusen Ready to Cash In Quickly

Now, the Bundesliga club appears willing to sell again almost immediately. That's a notable turnaround for a player they only recently reacquired.

His versatility helps his case too. Alajbegović can operate across the front line, whether wide or centrally, giving whichever club signs him plenty of tactical flexibility. Given Alonso's tactical setup at Chelsea, he could slot into an inside forward role behind the front line.

Chelsea's approach fits a broader pattern under their current ownership.
