Portuguese Giants Move Fast On Loan Deal
Benfica have opened formal talks with Al Nassr over a loan move for Colombian striker Jhon Durán, aiming to secure his signature ahead of the 2026-27 season. Sporting director Mário Branco has reportedly traveled to the Middle East personally, pushing to accelerate discussions. Direct contact has also taken place with Durán's camp, signaling genuine intent from both sides rather than mere speculation.
Durán, 22, joined Al Nassr from Aston Villa in January 2025 for a reported €77 million. Since then, his career has drifted through loan spells at Fenerbahce and Zenit Saint Petersburg, neither producing lasting stability. A permanent transfer remains unlikely, given his contract runs until 2030 and Al Nassr shows little appetite for a discounted sale. Instead, a season-long loan looks the most realistic path forward.
Salary Complications Loom Large
Money remains the central obstacle. Durán earns close to €20 million annually, a figure that previously derailed interest from Galatasaray. Whether Al Nassr agrees to subsidize part of his wages during any loan spell will likely determine if Benfica can finalize things. Notably, Benfica already features Colombian midfielder Richard Ríos, a familiar face that could ease Durán's transition into Lisbon life.
Time pressure adds urgency, too. Portuguese outlet Record suggests Benfica hopes to complete a forward signing within the coming week, with Durán emerging as the frontrunner among available options. Turkish interest hasn't fully disappeared either, with Fanatik still linking him to Galatasaray. Nevertheless, momentum currently favors Benfica.
